(November 13, 2024, Hangzhou,) smart, the new-premium intelligent and all-electric auto brand, has revealed new strides in its latest annual sustainability report, with improved data security and reduced environmental impact. Since its comprehensive renewal, the worldwide operating company has been committed to delivering superior product experiences and addressing broader aspects of the future mobility ecosystem, such as social and environmental responsibility, data security, expansion of the charging network and continued safety improvements.

smart Has Revealed New Strides in Its Latest Annual Sustainability Report

Mr. Tong Xiangbei, Global CEO of smart, said, "Over the past year, smart has continuously promoted sustainability, advocating for embracing diversity in thoughts, cultures, and beliefs. In a complex and ever-changing market environment, smart has consistently upheld our commitment to sustainability, integrating it into the company's strategy, innovation, and operations, achieving significant positive progress."

Enhancing Cybersecurity and Upholding Data Integrity

smart has reinforced its commitment to privacy and security, implementing a comprehensive Cybersecurity Management System (CSMS) and Software Upgrade Management System (SUMS). The smart #3 was awarded the first domestic UNECE R155 cybersecurity and R156 software upgrade VTA E1 certification in China, issued by the German Ministry of Transport (Kraftfahrtbundesamt; short: KBA). smart therefore becomes one of the earliest automakers to obtain this acceptance in the world.

To date, smart boasts ‘four zeros’ when it comes to information security key performance indicators. These are zero information security vulnerabilities or cybersecurity incidents, zero data breach incidents, zero customers or employees affected by data breaches and zero penalties for falling short of related standards.

smart has also achieved a Data Security Management Capability certification (DSMC), awarded by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, and participated in the drafting of the "Data Security Management System Requirements for Automotive Companies" led by China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. This framework not only ensures high standards in data security and vehicle cybersecurity but also reinforces the technical credibility of smart vehicles.

In Europe, smart has established a privacy centre responsible for dealing with the privacy regulation related business requirements in European region. Meanwhile in 2023, 100% of the electricity used by smart offices in Germany and Italy was sourced from renewable energy sources, underscoring the brand’s commitment to minimizing carbon emissions.

Advancing Sustainable Practices and Gaining Global Recognition

To support the brand’s sustainable initiatives, smart has accelerated the rollout of proprietary smart-operated charging stations, offering users efficient and sustainable charging options. To date, more than 96,000 integrated public charging stations and 1,150,000 terminals in operation across China.

In addition, smart has engaged in a variety of climate awareness promotion campaigns in China, both public and internal, with the aim of promoting environmental consciousness. These have included a tree-planting reforestation project in Gansu Province, green-themed city walks and “leave no trace” volunteering activities involving employees, customers, agents and other stakeholders in Beijing, and other cities, as well as in-office initiatives aimed at raising awareness and encouraging good carbon reduction practise.

In 2024,following a similar trend to the award-winning smart #1, the smart #3 was awarded a five-star rating by the European Green NCAP for its environmental performance, while the China Automotive Health Index (C-AHI) honoured the smart #3 BRABUS with the 2023 "Five-Star Healthy Car" award.
