smart Europe CEO Dirk Adelmann emphasized the good progress made in major markets such as Germany and the United Kingdom in terms of electric vehicle quotas: competition in the automotive industry today is like a decathlon, where it is necessary to be on a good level in at least ten disciplines, while being on outstanding level in two or three of those. Benefiting from the good collaboration with shareholders Mercedes-Benz and Geely, smart benefits particularly in the areas of design, connectivity, and upgradeability. While smart is presenting its entire all-electric vehicle portfolio for the first time together at a major European automotive show, the successful launch of the smart #5 in most European markets was a key topic of discussion, underscoring smart‘s growing momentum in the premium electric mobility segment.

Confirmation of smart #2 as the fourth model in smart’s European line-up

At the “smart Mobility Talk” on Monday morning, Dirk Adelmann confirmed in front of the press conference attendees that the smart #2 will become a new addition to the product portfolio of smart in Europe. During the press conference, Dirk Adelmann – together with Dr. Tilo Schweers, Vice President Research & Development at smart Europe, and Kai Sieber, Head of Design smart at Mercedes-Benz – shared details about the final development stage of the new all-electric car for urban mobility. With the reinvention of this very compact two-seater, the company is responding to the wishes of its community and brand enthusiasts. With the support and trustful partnership of its major stakeholders and investors, smart is currently working in the decisive design and engineering development stages. The goal is to present the series-production model of the smart #2 in Europe as early as fall 2026.

Europe is a key sales region for smart, and with the smart #2 we are accelerating our growth here. This compact model will combine mindful technology with the iconic spirit of the original, designed specifically for Europe’s urban environments. It perfectly continues our strategy to offer innovative, attractive electric vehicles that resonate with our customers. With the smart #2, we are strengthening our portfolio to offer European smart customers an even more compelling range of four distinct models – a foundation for sustained success in the years ahead.
