smart has published its Sustainability Report 2024, highlighting the brand’s progress on the journey toward fully carbon-neutral vehicles by 2045. Since 2019, smart has been exclusively producing all-electric vehicles in Europe, building a strong foundation based on thoughtful material choices, top-tier safety, and innovative technologies.

On a global scale, smart strengthened its local supply chain, with more than 95% of procurement coming from nearby suppliers. This approach not only reduces transport emissions but also makes the supply chain more efficient and resilient.

At the same time, smart expanded its use of recycled materials, increasing the share of recycled aluminum and plastics across numerous components. Thanks to these efforts more than 95% of the materials used in all mass-produced smart models are now recoverable.

Safety, efficiency, and sustainability remain central factors of every smart vehicle. All current models, smart #1, smart #3 and smart #5, hold a 5-star Euro NCAP rating, while the all-electric smart #5 also achieved the top score in the Large SUV category in 2025.

Beyond the vehicle, smart strengthened its positive impact in European communities. In Germany, smart joined forces with Viva con Agua on a clean water and sanitation initiative launched at the GLÜCKSGEFÜHLE Festival 2024. The brand also served as mobility partner at Berlin’s “Karneval der Kulturen”, promoting accessible, low-carbon mobility across the city.

In the meantime, smart Europe successfully passed the ISO 14001 surveillance audit for the year 2025 by meeting and exceeding its environmental targets. In the offices of smart Europe GmbH located in Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Germany, the company achieved an 8% reduction in electricity consumption, a 14% reduction in water usage, and a 36% increase in the use of sustainable energy compared to the previous year.
