A cornerstone of smart’s sustainability strategy is to offer vehicles based on a holistically carbon-neutral production by 2045. smart has been producing all-electric vehicles exclusively since 2019, establishing a foundation rooted in sustainable choices for materials, vehicle safety, and technical innovations that support performance and energy efficiency, driving forward intelligent and sustainable development.
Together with its partners, smart is committed to delivering solutions for more sustainable products. In close cooperation with Geely, smart is consistently pursuing the goal of developing production sites and manufacturing processes in such a way that the target of carbon neutrality can be achieved by 2045.
smart has achieved notable industry recognition and user acclaim for its commitment to environmental standards, setting new benchmarks across multiple areas. In 2023, the smart #3 Pro+ received a top five-star rating from Green NCAP, underscoring smart’s focus on efficiency and reducing environmental impact. This dedication is further evident in the smart #1 carbon footprint certification, which aligns with the ISO 14067 standard, “Greenhouse gases – Carbon footprint of products – Requirements and guidelines for quantification.” By implementing a certified vehicle carbon footprint accounting system, smart is setting a clear path toward net-zero emissions, reinforcing its ongoing commitment to vehicle electrification and decarbonization throughout the entire value chain.
As part of a comprehensive sustainability strategy, smart relies on environmentally friendly materials, with a recoverability rate of over 95% for all smart models in the line-up in all European markets. Through the integration of recyclable steel and aluminum in vehicle production, smart implements the principles of the circular economy.
