Latest smart #5 Update Refines the Ride

February 24, 2026, Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Germany. smart is delivering a comprehensive over-the-air (OTA) update for the smart #5¹, which will be available for customers in European markets from the beginning of March. The update will be rolled out in cascades across all European markets. Since its 2025 European launch, the premium mid-size all-electric SUV has gained new features and optimizations that make every day driving more comfortable, connected, and safer.

Easier control of active speed limit warning 

The smart #5 now enables drivers to access active speed limit warning settings directly via the Drive Setup Button. With only two taps, the vehicle instantly restores preferred configurations for a range of driving preferences and driver assistance systems. The added traffic sign recognition selection option allows to select an active speed limit warning: visual only, visual and audio, or off². This enables drivers to enjoy a more personalized driving experience from the moment they set off, eliminating the need to manually adjust setting by setting before every journey. 

The smart #5 explains itself 

A new voice assistant capability in the smart #5 turns everyday driving into an even more intuitive and confident experience. Instead of searching through manuals or menus, drivers can now simply ask their smart how a feature works and get an instant, clear explanation. The system draws on content from the user manual and FAQ documents to provide answers, both spoken and displayed on the central screen. This makes familiarization with the vehicle easier, shortens the learning process, and helps owners discover the full potential of their smart #5 right from day one. 

Amazon Music meets Dolby Atmos

With the latest over-the-air update, Amazon Music³ is available integrated in the smart #5 app store, giving drivers access to millions of songs, playlists, and podcasts – all without connecting or using their phone. The Sennheiser's Signature Sound System in the smart #5 BRABUS and Premium lines with its Dolby Atmos certified speaker setup, transforms the cabin into a concert hall for immersive, crystal-clear sound.

Wired screen mirroring for more flexibility 

For those who want to add a new level of flexibility to life on the road, the new screen mirroring feature transforms the smart #5 into a mobile workspace or entertainment hub. Users can connect their laptop, tablet, or smartphone to the vehicle's USB-C port using an HDMI converter to display content on the central and passenger screen when stationary. Moveable between both screens, it is ideal for reviewing presentations, participating in video calls, working on documents on a larger display, or streaming content during breaks. With intelligent safety logic that limits display to the passenger screen while driving, the feature blends productivity, entertainment, and responsibility – making the smart #5 an even better companion for modern, connected lifestyles. With the new over-the-air update, smart underlines its ambition not only to build innovative vehicles, but also to develop them continuously and adapt them to user needs.
