30 July, 2026, Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Germany. smart is introducing its latest model year update for the smart #1, #3 and #51. It reflects the brand's commitment to deliberate, continuous improvement: adding what customers ask for, refining what already works, and making the smart product portfolio more expressive and capable with every iteration. Three updates define this year's advancement: the expansion of the smart #5 Premium into the all-wheel drive segment, and a distinctive new Black Collection for all Pro+ lines as well as an expanded choice of exterior and interior colors.
In today’s varied market environments for electric vehicles, relevance has to be earned year after year. With this comprehensive model year update for all currently available all-electric smart models, we focus on what our customers value most in everyday driving: more capability, sharper design, and greater personal expression. From the new smart #5 Premium AWD to the Black Collection and extended color & trim palette, every update is designed to make our cars feel more distinctive, more rewarding to live with and more confidence-inspiring in every condition.Xuan-Zheng Goh, Director Product, Marketing & Communications at smart Europe
smart now offers the #5 as a capable and distinctive, premium all-wheel drive vehicle for all seasons priced at €2.500 more than the rear-wheel drive #5 Premium option. By adding an all-wheel drive option to the line, smart combines the #5 Premium's signature elegance – with features like Sennheiser Sound System, ventilated front and heated rear Duo Leather seats, double pane glass and extended range – with the traction and stability of smart's sovereign dual-motor drivetrain technology. The result is a more confident drive in all possible weather and road conditions. Whether navigating wet urban roads, Alpine passes or Nordic winters, the smart #5 Premium AWD broadens the model's appeal across Europe's diverse climates and geographies. For those who favor the smart #5 Premium with rear-wheel drive, this option will also remain part of the line-up.
Beyond the new AWD option, smart also sharpens the visual presence of its Pro+ lines with the introduction of the Black Collection in the full product portfolio. Available for the smart #1, #3 and #5 at €600 on top of the Pro+ price, it brings a more elevated aesthetic to an already feature-rich line. The Black Collection responds to a growing customer demand for distinctive, more performance-oriented EV styling – translating that desire into a coherent, considered design statement.
Across the smart #1, #3 and #5 Pro+ lines, the Black Collection pairs coordinated black body details – including the front grille, rear diffuser, side skirts, belt line and roof bars – as well as model-specific black wheel designs. The smart #1 features 18-inch Amps rims in full black with complete Deep Jade Black exterior details, while the smart #3 adds 19-inch Flux rims in full black with the same Deep Jade Black treatment. The smart #5 receives 19-inch Orbit rims in gloss black, complete Meta Black exterior details and concealed door handles for a more refined finish.
Black body color is offered as part of the pack at no additional charge. Privacy glass is another feature available in the Black Collection. It complements the monochromatic look and provides additional privacy and comfort.
Alongside the Black Collection, the whole line-up now includes three new interior trim options designed to complement the curated range of exterior colors. Rather than overwhelm with endless options, smart offers a coordinated color palette to help customers create a combination that feels deliberate, not a compromise.
The updated models, including the Black Collection for all Pro+ lines, the expanded design options, and the smart #5 Premium AWD, will be available for purchase in Italy starting July 30th; the rollout will take place gradually across all European markets.
